MSRRY

Sorry about the long, unscheduled vacation just after the brief, scheduled vacation. Things have been difficult lately. It takes more effort than I'd like just to sit at this monitor and type out an entry, let alone get content up daily. I really do hate to neglect my blog, but until I get the health stuff under control, it looks like it'll be a necessary casualty.

I'm going to start seeing a therapist today. Seeing again, actually. I was with her for a long time after high school and leading up to my 20%-life crisis when I ran away to Sacramento. Anyway, five years later, she's still practicing (you'd think she'd get it right after all these years, huh? RIMSHOT!), and I'm still passing out, so it seems like a good fit. Time to once again attack this from a stress management angle. It's been about a month on medication, and I haven't noticed a marked decrease in symptoms. It may still kick in, but I'm starting to think that something new needs to be tried.

The New Plague

For too long, backyard wrestling has been maligned in the press. Written off as nothing more than inbred idiots jumping through tables and panes of glass, lighting themselves on fire for no good reason. All the while, a threat much more insidious has been lurking behind America's houses, threatening to tear at the very fabric of our family lives.

BACKYARD FOOTBALL.

Today, my oldest nephew, Roger, is in surgery at Children's Hospital because some goon FELL ON HIM, breaking the poor lad's jaw. I remember nigh ten years ago, the first time I held the infant in my arm and thought about how I'd never loved anyone so completely, now lying in a hospital bed, clinging to life! Well, okay, not clinging to life. But... CLINGING TO TEETH! And some glandular freak twelve year old is to blame! Roger's jaw is wired shut, and the band plays on! No footballs will be stored high on shelves or in the back of closets, away from the reach of impressionable children. But go on, America... lock up your barbed wire and light bulbs. WE ARE A NATION OF MISPLACED VALUES!

Celebrate!

It's a big month for birthdays in the Blog nation, as Lucas celebrated his 26th yesterday by being STRANDED in that state with all the esses in it. Shitty birthday! I hope it turned out okay. And no, it wasn't Mississippi. And back on Monday, March 3rd I neglected to mention Uncle Adam turning 33. BIRD! In addition to that, today is Davekwon's 28th! Just one more to go for this guy, as he gloomily referred to in the comments on the last entry. If I'm missing any more big March birthdays of blognificance, let me know.

I really just wanted to pop on with some birthday wishes. I'm still not really 100% healthwise, and being on the computer too much makes me kind of crazy, but i"ll tryto be back tomorrow with some actual content. PEACE!

A Hassle by Proxy

Meryl is always telling me what a pain in the ass having a car is, and what a nuisance driving can be. It's not like these revelations shock me or anything. I just never really think about it. Dating someone with a car, especially this time of year, has opened my eyes a little bit and given me some insight. Take for instance two Saturdays ago. We're at Carriage Place in a 45 minute parking spot. After deciding to stay and see a movie, we have to re-park in a long-term spot or risk being ticketed or towed or whatever they do. So we're pulling out, and an old woman calls to our attention that Meryl's Focus is now on one flat tire. This doesn't happen on the COTA line, and if it did, I would simply get off the bus and, depending on where I was along the line, wait for the next one or walk to my destination and not give it another thought. So this flat tire turns into quite the ordeal, as I've only ever dealt with the situation once in my life prior to this. Eventually we handled it, and once we got going with a plan of action it didn't take long to put the spare on, but still, a pain in the ass. Add to that the expense and time-consumption of buying a new tire and NO THANKS, says bus guy.

Anyhow, this brings us to the fabulous snow storm you may have heard about if you live in Columbus. Long story short, I dug her car out its icy captivity yesterday afternoon, and while it wasn't difficult or particularly annoying, it's just another thing I don't have to deal with as a regular passenger of mass transportation.

I'm sure there are great things about owning a car, or even just being a licensed driver. And I curse GOD HIMSELF every time I can't focus enough to read a book or watch a TV show or do anything but lay quietly. In this instance, though, my dizziness may be a blessing in disguise. Long-term, I should probably live somewhere that runs a few more bus routes, but for now, COTA gets me where I need to go. THANKS, COTA!

I'm not as happy about it as that guy, but hey, I'm not complainin'.

A Most Holy Day

Today, March 7th, we celebrate the anniversary of the birth of the source and inspiration for the Blogaissance that has been in full flower since last July. It is Jenna Fischer's 34th birthday, and so long as she doesn't break her back in the next 365 days, I have to imagine it'll be an even better year than her 33rd.

Spelled G, Double E, K

Chavo Guerrero beat CM Punk for the eight millionth time in a feud that has been going on for roughly thirty-four years on ECW last night. It doesn't bother me that he won, but it bugs me that this brand seems to only have one babyface they feel comfortable slotting in as a challenger. They probably need to bring in a new body to fill that number one contender void that CM Punk is (hopefully) leaving now, but I don't know who it should be. I wouldn't really wish the sub-two million viewer Purgatory that is ECW on anyone. At least they ended the feud (again, hopefully) on a pretty good match.

Checked out the pilot of New Amsterdam, about the immortal cop/carpenter/art expert/lip reader/damn near anything because he's got so much LIFE EXPERIENCE on FOX last night. I generally lower my standards when I'm watching a pilot, because it takes actors a while to figure out their characters, and for a show in general to find its voice. This is why when sampling new shows, unless something just screams "NOT SALVAGEABLE!" in bright, neon letters from the very beginning, I give it a three-episode trial period. New Amsterdam, however, wasn't too bad. It's a show where its gimmick (the cop is immortal up until he meets his TRUE LOVE, at which point he becomes human and dies or something) is such that I can't imagine how they'll sustain it for a long run because people are going to get tired of waiting for the payoff. But hey, that's down the road. For right now, I was pretty entertained for forty-four minutes, and that's all I really ask.

Gossip Girl was officially picked up for a second season, so this is obviously a big day for me.

I still haven't gotten around to messing with that Fallout 2 patch I wrote about in January. So I guess I wasn't quite as excited about it as I let on at the time. SORRY.

Huh. I wonder if I can talk about anything non-geeky before I end this here blog en-oop!

Guess not.

I voted this afternoon. It's what Gary Gygax would have wanted.

TOO SOONED!

I had forgotten that John Edwards' campaign was merely "suspended", so to see him on the ballot was a surprise. WASTED VOTE 4 NAPPY!

Racism?

I walked past a couple of city workers on High Street this morning, and heard one of them say this: "I don't think we need Canada or Mexico yet. Not yet. Not Canada or Mexico."

I wanted to stop and try to hear more, but I couldn't figure out how to do so in any kind of less than conspicuous manner, so I just continued on, bewildered. What does his statement imply? That we will need Canada and Mexico at some undefined point in the future? Does he know something I don't? Was he talking about NFL expansion? Global domination? Globetrotting? What's his game?
