A Very Merry Un-Birthday to Me

So I had a dream last night/this morning that it was my birthday, and my first thought was, "I better blog about this." Then I woke up and it wasn't my birthday, but a bird was in the TV room. A bird! Now it's gone.

A Scary Mexican

Thank God for earphones.

I was on the way back from my Poetry class this afternoon when I thought I was going to die. I was looking at a large Mexican man sitting across the aisle from me, when suddenly I laughed, while staring directly at him. Thankfully, my headphones were wrapped around my ears so I think he assumed I was reacting to something I'd heard.

I wasn't.

I was looking at this Mexican; short, powerful looking, wearing dark sun glasses and a greasy ponytail, when I noticed a tattoo on his arm. What was it, you ask?

Photobucket

Yes. PEBBLES FLINTSTONE. It takes a special kind of bad ass to pull this off. This however, did not crack me. It wasn't until he pulled his MP3 player from his pocket and popped in earphones of his own that I lost it. This burly Hispanic produced a HOT PINK MP3 player the size of a Tic Tacs container. I've never fought so hard to withhold laughter. I failed.

Photobucket

I could have died.

Thank God for earphones.

Karma

What do I get for shirking my responsibilities TO THE KIDS? Sun burn, that's what. Three hours floating down the Elk River in a canoe with intermittent shade trees blocking out the flame-fingered sun. SPF 30? No buys. Next time, a parisol. At the very least. Perhaps a parka as well. Now to watch the second half. GO CAVS.

EDIT: As frustrating as that second half was, it was all worth it for the last second. One of the most incredible sports moments I've ever seen, right up there with the time Ric Flair played musical chairs on RAW.

Failventures in Travfailing

I want to say right off the bat, I am very sorry, friend Lucas. I forgot completely about the play. I wanted to do it for the kids. I am now in wild, wonderful West Virginia. Sorry I failed.

FAIL.

I Guess It Needed More Hype After All

Or at the very least more than a day of hype. 3 South marathon is sadly postponed, as I got zero confirmations of attendance. Anyone doing anything tonight?

Also, enjoy!

Note: For some reason, you have to enter the whole name of the 2009 winner. No idea why.

This Needs Very Little Hype

Who's game for a 3 South marathon Wednesday night?

Adventures in Word Salad

Has anyone else noticed that the people responsible for the word verification cues seem to be on to the game? Every single one is now almost a word, whereas before it seemed truly random and more times than not you'd just get gobbledygook. Kind of takes the fun out of the hunt if you ask me. Oh, you didn't? Fine.

Also, I just got back from Adventureland. Another film where every trailer I saw for it was a total mislead. Much less a wacky comedy and much more a Cameron-Crowe reminiscent coming of age tale. Ashley noticed the Crowe aspect, so I have to give her credit for that. Anyhow, it wasn't what I was expecting, and actually ended up better for it. THUMBS UP!

STAR TREK IS GOOD

I saw Star Trek at the Gateway this afternoon with my mom. It was rad. More on this as it develops.

EDIT: Just remembered this, but there's a scene where young Spock gets the mount and works ground and pound on another Vulcan. Awesome.

Out of Steam

I'm watching King Kong with Young Adam, and boy is it ever racist. I remembered the horrible caricatures of island people, but had completely forgotten about the potato peeling Chinaman. Awesome. "Someday me go back to China, never look at potato anymore."

Also, Skull Island is shaped like an elephant. That's weird.

Davekwon and I watched a bunch of episodes of Spaced last night. That's an awesome show.

Yep.

TV Party... Tonight!

Davekwon and I are going to watch things at my house. Come on over if you also are a person who likes to watch things.

Also, now that it's no longer May 5th and won't be in poor taste, I present you the greatest thing to ever happen in the history of professional wrestling, and possibly the world.

An Actual Conversation I Just Had With My Friend Jeff

Jeff: Did you like the movie Ghostbusters?

Me: It's hard to actually express my feelings for that film in words, so I'll just say "yes."

Jeff: I saw it, didn't get the hype. Some of it was good, but I was like "that's it?"

Me: I'm sorry you feel that way. Give me credit here. I'm resisting the strong urge to cut all ties with you forever.

RAW Is War is Porn... IN A BUN!

WWE 24/7 (now WWE Classics on Demand) is airing the first episode of their Monday Night Wars feature, from September 11th (never forget), 1995. This was the very first head to head battle between RAW and Nitro, and the second ever episode of Nitro overall. I'm planning on watching this before tonight's new RAW, and because it was 1995, each show only lasted an hour, for a tidy total running time of ninety minutes thanks to the miracle of NO COMMERCIALS. I've actually never seen much, if any, of this era's TV, as I was on wrestling hiatus from about 1993 until late 1997. Anyway, I'm going to watch this at about 8 o'clock, so if you want to see such battles as Alex Wright versus Sabu and Shawn Michaels versus SID, come on by!

TV Thoughts

I don't know if anyone is watching Ultimate Fighter this season, but I did a total 180 on Demarques Johnson this week. I HATED this guy for the past couple episodes and absolutely could not wait to see him lose. Something about him this week made me turn the corner, and I'm not even sure exactly what did it. His little prayer to God to "fight well" was a nice touch though. I was sad to see Team U.K.'s winning streak come to an end, but if it had to, I'm glad Demarques was the guy who did it.

MMA
He's gonna drink some beers tonight.
