Eight bit action

For whatever reason, I had more energy than any of my friends tonight. Amanda, Dave, Lee, Lucas and I went for dinner at El Vaquero and left the restaurant at about 10. I was ready to do something. Nobody else was. I made three calls, all dead ends. So Davekwon and I played NES Jeopardy and Family Feud. In the balance, I think I made out ahead.

Andrew "Test" Martin: 1975-2009

Just wanted to briefly comment on the passing of Test. I kind of feel bad now for, as recently as ten days ago, referring to him as the "shittiest wrestler in the history of Canada." He really wasn't. One of the best big boots in history has to count for something, right? There's no apparent cause of death that's been announced, but I think we've all seen enough of these by now to know the score. His 34th birthday would have been this coming Tuesday, St. Patrick's day. Just like Dave, who loved those big boots so.

As for memories of Test, I think I'll always remember his match with Shane McMahon at Summerslam 1999 more than anything else. I think that was the first time I'd seen a flying elbow drop through an announcer's table, and it ruled.

He wasn't a great wrestler by any measure, but he was a star for many years in the biggest wrestling company in the world, so he had to be doing something right.

Shane McMahon didn't "pass the Test".

Last night, I beat Earthbound for just the second time in my life. This calls for a celebratory picture party.

That was fun!

Also, don't forget about Saturday night. Movies and pizza and beer and soda and such at my house.

In Dreams

Tonight is Broin' Down, but even more importantly, I had a really complicated dream.

I was out to dinner with my father, my grandmother, my cousin Annie, and my friend Jason. This resulted in my father being eaten by a tank full of manatees that the restaurant kept on hand.

Photobucket

Somehow this transitioned into me graduating from CAHS again, and going on a date with a girl who I think was a real person but since I can't remember her name in real life, she was designated "Lisa". So, Lisa and I go on a date, and I am then being investigated for MURDER. I'm really not sure how this happened, but I think it involved me driving a car, which puts it well into the realm of fantasy.

Anyhow, I'm under investigation for a long time, and somehow wind up at the Lennox. The killer actually turns out to be Jeremy Sisto, sans pancakes.

He had been around for much of the dream, playing the role of Bystander #2 or something, and I never would have suspected his guilt. At this point, Tim Allen arrived at the theater to offer his moral support for the rough night I was having.

Photobucket

I asked him for a ride home, but his car was full of celebrities, so he gave me passes to his upcoming movie instead. Something about pirates and lasers.

I decided to walk home after being blown off by Funky D, who was actually there to see a movie. I set out on foot, but was soon picked up by a couple of "hootlums" who I was soon down with.

Photobucket

The dream sort of petered out at this point, but I beat the rap and that's all that matters in the end, right?

Photobucket

I'm having a bit of a movie night on Saturday. Actually, I'm not sure why I wrote "a bit of". I'm having a movie night, period. So come over and watch movies.

The Theft of Time

Truly, this is the worst day of the year, by far. Just remember, whatever you love to do, today you have one less hour in which to do it. Cooking, watching movies, listening to music, making love, all shortened. In 2006, this very day caused my family to miss a flight from Europe and over a thousand dollars to get new fares on such short notice. THIS DAY IS TERRIBLE.

Happy Baseball Day!

Photobucket

Today (very early this morning) marked the beginning of the 2009 WORLD BASEBALL CLASSIC, the greatest event in all of sports. If anyone feels like watching some international baseball, that's what I'll be doing for at least a couple hours most days over the next three weeks. This morning's Japan/China game was great fun to watch, and it's really exciting to get a sneak peak at some guys who may be in the major leagues this time next year. The United States takes on Canada on Saturday afternoon, and HELL IS COMING TO TORONTO. THE SKY DOME WILL NEVER BE THE SAME AGAIN. Or whatever the heck it's called now. Much like when Triple H came into the arena in 2002 and vanquished Canadian hero Chris Jericho, so will the mighty Americans of the United States unleash fury upon their neighbors to the north. U-S-A! U-S-A!

The Week Ahead

Some televised events coming up this week. Elect to join me for as few or as many as you like.

Sunday, March 1st: 9:00pm

Free MMA on the Versus channel. It's the latest World Extreme Cagefighting show. For those who may not know, WEC is owned by the same parent company as UFC and has a focus on the lighter weight classes. No lumbering heavyweight snoozefests here, that's for sure.

Photobucket

Monday, March 2nd: 9:45pm

The Road to Wrestlemania continues to be paved as we'll get the next chapter in the unfolding Triple H/Randy Orton saga as well as Shawn Michaels' latest opportunity to work a miracle as he works a singles match with Vladimir Kozlov.

Photobucket

Tuesday, March 3rd: 7:00pm

Wrestling Night visits us on the first Tuesday of the month this time, as it's pretty much the only Tuesday that will work for me in March. But I guarantee good times, as we'll be watching a show from deep into the Vince Russo era of WCW: Bash at the Beach 2000! Thrills! Chills! Bad wrestling! A fake promo that sparked a real lawsuit! It's all here, waiting for you!

Photobucket

Saturday, March 6th: 10:00pm

UFC in Columbus! And since I can't afford to go, I'll watch it at home! Check out Quinton "Rampage" Jackson and "The Dean of Mean" Keith Jardine lock horns in a titanic struggle to improve position in the 205-pound weight class!

Photobucket

Jesus. What a week. Hope to see you there!
